Retirement, according to Wikipedia, is one’s withdrawal from a position, occupation, or active life. For most people, retirement is a way to permanently escape the fast-paced way of living and stressing situations of full-time employment. Basically, retirement is like a vacation that never ends, so it’s best to choose your location wisely. After all, you’ll be spending the rest of your life here, so might as well enjoy it to the fullest.

Which brings us to the next and most important question: where to retire? Location is a primary factor to consider when thinking of a retirement place, which is also most real estate’s concern.

The Philippines is an archipelagic state home to 7,641 beautiful islands, three of which are Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. While it’s known for its unique structure, the Philippines is all the more famous for its vibrant culture, hospitality, English-speaking population, and tropical climate. Famous among expat communities are the country’s beautiful beaches, mountain ranges, tourist spots, affordable healthcare, sumptuous Filipino cuisine, and so much more! The Philippines just has so much to offer, so why don’t we take a look at some of the best retirement cities in the Philippines, especially for expats?

Calamba, Laguna

The City of Calamba in Laguna is commonly referred to as the “Resort Capital of the Philippines” because of the many present hot spring resorts within the area located mostly in Pansol, Laguna. But, over the years, Calamba has come to be known as a residential destination as well, all thanks to the emergence and abundance of real estate developments around town.

Expats will surely enjoy their retirement years here in Calamba because of the many fun activities such as swimming or hot spring resort hopping, sightseeing, and so much more. In addition to that, Calamba is also fueled by a good amount of commercial and lifestyle centers such as shopping malls to help provide for your necessities. Lastly, Calamba is close to the many other conveniences, one of which are hospitals, schools, gasoline stations, churches, and so much more.

Baguio

Dubbed as the “Summer Capital of the Philippines” is The City of Pines, Baguio, sitting 5,300 feet above sea level popularly known for its year-round cold and misty weather. With that, fresh fruits and vegetables are always available, and walking from one landmark to another won’t feel as tiring as it is in Manila. This seemingly puts residents in a good mood all the time. Though commercialization and heavy traffic are evident in this city, it continues to preserve its charm, a laid-back way of living, art scenes and galleries, and scenic views of nature that expats will definitely fall in love with.

Tagaytay

Known as the “Little Baguio” of the south is Tagaytay City, a small town in the province of Cavite that sits about 2,000 feet above sea level. Tagaytay is a favorite weekend getaway spot of most tourists mainly because of its proximity to Manila, with only about an hour to an hour and a half drive.

Apart from its cool climate and ideal location, Tagaytay is also home to new residential developments, which are perfect for expat retirees! Nestled just along Tagaytay’s ridges is Tagaytay Highlands, the best mountain resort in the Philippines offering a wide range of mid-rise for sale condominiums that you can choose from. With that, expats can also enjoy afternoon clubbing at Tagaytay Highlands’ International Golf Club.

More than anything, Tagaytay is most famous for its high value for money. Mahogany Market is a popular destination in Tagaytay as it offers fresh fruits, vegetables, and other necessities. Tagaytay is also full of gardens, farms, and spas perfect for rest and relaxation. With every basic necessity within the area, would you even want to go someplace else?

Cebu

Recognized as the “Queen City of the South” is Cebu City, a province combining modernity, convenience, and laid-back living all into one. If asked which city or region in the Philippines it’s best to retire, Cebu is probably one of the most recommended answers as it offers high-quality and world-class medical facilities and healthcare institutions. Health is wealth, and I’m pretty sure all of us would want only the best of medical facilities that can help preserve one’s health. More than that, language barrier is also never a problem as Cebuanos can understand, read, write, and speak English well, so you wouldn’t really have a hard time asking for directions or going about your way through the entire city.

Additionally, Cebu also has great value for money as it promotes an affordable way and cost of living. Your $100,000 budget for a year can extend up to ten years in Cebu if used primarily on necessities, budgeted, and handled wisely.

Metro Manila

Who can ever forget Metro Manila? Though it is obviously congested, where traffic is terrible, and pollution is everywhere, Manila still has this ability to preserve its city charm. And in fact, everything is within your reach when in Manila. A wide variety of restaurants, shopping malls, hospitals, schools, colleges, and universities, theme parks, a forest within the concrete jungle, and so much more!

House and lots are everywhere, condominium units are continually being developed, social life is cultivated; everything is in Manila. The only missing piece is you!
